Chris Van Allsburg, “The Polar Express” and “Jumanji”

October 29, 2009

Chris Van Allburg is the Caldecott-winning author and illustrator of many acclaimed works, including The Polar Express, Jumanji, Zathura, and many others. He was born in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan and the Rhode Island School of Design. Every book features Fritz, a bull terrier that is based on a real-life dog owned by Chris Van Allsburg’s brother-in-law. He appears in every book and even on his website, sometimes as a real dog, or a toy, or other things as a tribute to the dog’s life.

We spoke to Chris in his studio on the third floor of his home.

Interesting point, one imagines when Hollywood comes a knocking it’s always going to be a good thing.
Sleepless nights, depression and long term book damage is not something we really hear about!
