RISD screening — Nov. 10, 2010

November 12, 2010

We are grateful to Rhode Island School of Design and the Providence Children’s Film Festival for co-sponsoring a superb reception, screening, and panel discussion on Wednesday evening. And we thank everyone who participated and attended, especially our three panelists Chris Van Allsburg, Natalie Babbitt, and Mary Jane Begin. Based on RSVPs, the screening was moved from the 200-seat Metcalf Auditorium to RISD’s 570-seat Main Auditorium, which was nearly filled, with many of the audience traveling from Connecticut, Massachusetts and other places. The panel discussion following the screening lasted more than an hour, with an excellent array of questions from the audience. Here are a few shots from the event, taken by Liz Goulet Dubois:

Robert Brinkerhoff, the head of the illustration department at RISD, introduced the panel.

Natalie Babbitt speaks about her experiences of having a book turned into a movie. (No, she wasn’t thrilled with the results!)

Chris Van Allsburg fields a question about one of his lesser-known books, The Wretched Stone.
