University of Victoria screening a great success
Although we the filmmakers were not able to attend yesterday evening’s screening and panel discussion at University of Victoria — our first in Canada — our host Sylvia Pantaleo wrote that they had a great turnout with an engaged and appreciative audience of about 150 people. “It was a fantastic event overall,” she said.
After the screening, the four panelists commented on issues in the film and related a few aspects raised in the documentary to the Canadian context. Click here for more information about the event and the panelists. We look forward to bringing the film to other Canadian cities including Toronto and Montreal later this year — stay tuned!
Canadian premiere at University of Victoria — January 20
Library of the Early Mind is coming to University of Victoria’s David Lam Auditorium in Victoria, BC, Canada, on January 20 at 7 p.m. This free documentary will be followed by a children’s literature panel moderated by Professor Sylvia Pantaleo to discuss the film’s themes from a Canadian perspective. The panel features Valerie Wyatt, an editor with Kids Can Press and the author of the award-winning How to build Your Own Country; Kristi Bridgeman, illustrator of the Governor General’s short-listed Uirapurú written by the late P.K. Page; Tracy Kendrick, Coordinator of Children’s and Teen Services for Victoria Public Library; and Sheryl McFarlane, author of Waiting for the Whales. First come, first seated.

Bridgewater State University screening — January 24

This event is something of a “return home” for co-producer Steven Withrow, who attended BSU’s Burnell School as a fifth- and sixth-grader in the mid-1980s.
